Apr. 21—MORRIS, Minn. — Wisconsin-Superior baseball’s trip to Morris started well on Friday, April 18 but ended badly on Saturday, April 19.
The Yellowjackets claimed a 4-3 win in Friday’s Upper Midwest Athletic Conference series opener but lost both ends of a Saturday doubleheader, 9-6 and 16-12.
On Friday, a four-run fifth inning was enough to win the nine-inning game, as Tanner Voight and Maxton Howell delivered back-to-back two-run singles.
UWS cut into the 4-1 lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings but UWS pitcher Kevin Rahe retired the last seven Cougars in order to complete the save.
Catcher Wylee Lottman was 3-for-4 with two doubles.
On Saturday, UWS led the opener 5-4 through six innings but fell behind late, giving up three in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth.
Peyton Steiner homered for the Yellowjackets. He and Jonny Rhodes had two-hit games.
