The Carolina Hurricanes will look to jump out to a 2-0 series lead over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday with what very well may be the same roster they iced on Sunday.
The team took to the ice at Lenovo Center on Monday for practice and the lines looked virtually the same as they had in previous skates.
The one difference, however, was that winger Taylor Hall was absent, but Brind’Amour stated after practice that he was just out for rest purposes, so he is expected to play on Tuesday still.
Perhaps the big question for Carolina though, will be whether or not the Canes rotate their netminder as they have all season.
During the regular season — when both Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov were healthy — the team had a consistent one game rotation and neither netminder ever played two games in a row.
But that may change now that we’re in the playoffs.
Canes coach Rod Brind’Amour seemed to be tossing the idea around before Game 1 when asked about a potential rotation and then wouldn’t tip his hand when asked again on Monday.
“I think we’re pretty sure of what we’re going to do, but I don’t want to commit to it at this point,” Brind’Amour said.
I’d be surprised if we didn’t see Andersen take the crease again on Tuesday, but it would still be a change of pace from how the team has operated nearly all season.
And if anyone is curious about any other changes amongst the skaters for Game 2, Brind’Amour at least didn’t rule out the possibility.
“All the guys that we took out, up front especially, were guys that we definitely could have in,” Brind’Amour said. “I’m not really big into not changing the lineup just because you win a game. You obviously don’t want to upset the apple cart, but if there’s a way to get better, we’ll definitely look at it.”
Trade deadline acquisition and hot scorer Mark Jankowski and Tyson Jost were the forwards who sat out Game 1 and Alexander Nikishin and Riley Stillman were the scratches on defense.
