Derek Carr picked a heck of a time to launch his YouTube channel. The New Orleans Saints‘ presumptive starting quarterback introduced the “Home Grown Network” project last week, where he’s partnered with his brother David Carr to touch on a range of lifestyle and hobbyist topics — starting with luxury car reviews. Breaking open packs of baseball cards and sharing tips from the golf course also appear to be on their itinerary.

While his Saints teammates were reporting for work at the start of the team’s voluntary offseason program back in Metairie, Carr shared a video showing off the Rolls-Royce Spectre, “The $500k EV That Changes Everything!”

News broke last Friday that Carr was dealing with a major shoulder injury which may require surgery, potentially sidelining him for the entire 2025 season. This is after the Saints guaranteed him $40 million in March whether or not he can pass a physical. While second-year backup Spencer Rattler was learning the cadence in Kellen Moore’s offense and leading the huddle with Pro Bowl center Erik McCoy and wide receiver Chris Olave, who returned for the first day of work after dealing with a series of concussions in 2024, Carr was busy talking up the exterior paint options on a half-a-million dollar coupe.

These optics aren’t great, but that’s been a recurring problem for Carr throughout his time with the Saints. Lapses in judgment have led to questions about his relationship with his teammates, whether that’s meant barking at Olave after he threw a bad ball or yelling at McCoy after he took a sack. Injured or not, he probably should have waited to pivot to this turn as an influencer.
