The Washington Commanders‘ 2024 season was a true Cinderella season. After winning just three games in 2023, the Commanders brought in Adam Peters and Dan Quinn to take over the team. Together, they drafted Jayden Daniels, who has turned out to be far better than anyone predicted.
One of the biggest arguments last year was whether Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels was the best quarterback in the draft. Obviously, Chicago Bears fans believed in their guy while the Commanders believed in Daniels. When the two teams met last season, it wasn’t a pretty game, but the Commanders did come out on top with Daniels’ memorable Hail Mary pass to Noah Brown to win the game.
NFL.com’s Kevin Patra created a list of the top 10 games to be played in 2025, and the Bears vs. Commanders rematch was sixth on the list.
Where: Northwest Stadium | Landover, Md.
Last year’s iteration wasn’t a pretty game, but it had the most memorable outcome with Jayden Daniels’ ridiculous Hail Mary. It was a touchstone tilt for both squads. The Bears spiraled into the depths, losing 10 straight, firing their coach, and starting over again. The win helped catapult Washington to the postseason and eventually the NFC Championship Game. I’m anticipating a better bout in 2025. The Commanders added Deebo Samuel to the mix and upgraded the offensive line, including trading for left tackle Laremy Tunsil. The Bears hired the best play-caller available in Ben Johnson, fortified the offensive line and added additional playmakers in Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III. Caleb Williams v. Jayden Daniels 2.0 should be much more than a Hail Mary highlight.
Neither the Bears nor the Commanders is the same team they were in 2024. The Commanders have bolstered their offensive line and added Deebo Samuel as a weapon for Daniels. The Bears hired a new coach, added to their offensive line, and added more offensive weapons.
On paper, the Commanders appear to be much more improved than the Bears. It was a close game last year, but when they play in Landover this year, it won’t be the same. Daniels has a renewed confidence with added weapons and protection, while Williams is still working on how to handle his emotions. Still, it’s too early to make any kind of prediction because you never know what is going to happen between now and then.
If the Commanders win, Daniels will have quashed the question of whether or not he’s better than Williams. If they lose, well, we’ll continue to hear about it for the foreseeable future.
