The Par 3 Contest has become the calm before the storm at the Masters. Before the first major begins on Thursday and the pressure mounts to claim a Green Jacket, players let their hair down and enjoy some quality family time at Augusta National’s par 3 course.
Kids in caddie jumpsuits. Aces wild. It’s good wholesome fun and we can’t get enough of it. Here’s the best responses to favorite Par 3 Contest stories.
Adam Scott
Having my daughter caddie for me last year for the first time. That was pretty cool. I also have seen a few hole-in-ones. Luke List made one with me back when he was an amateur.
Billy Horschel
I think it was maybe my first or second year playing there, Matt Every and I played with our college coach, Buddy Alexander (Florida). At that time, former US Amateur champions could play the Par-3 three. So the second hole, he made an ace. He had his son Tyson on his bag. That was pretty cool.
Brian Harman
Being out there with my kids. They are adorable.
Collin Morikawa
I think I have the worst combined score of anyone. I’d be happy to shoot 1-under. I lose a lot of money, how about that?
Gary Player
Simply playing with two of America’s greatest athletes ever and my dear friends, Jack and Arnold.
Gary Woodland
Kuch and I have had some battles. I made a hole-in-one last year. My son is seven and hadn’t been into golf and he made a putt last year on the last green and you’d have thought he won the Super Bowl. He’s hit balls 50 days since then. That’s probably my favorite.

Harris English
Last year was the first year I got to bring my daughter, which is special. She’s walking around a little bit this year so it should be even better.
Jason Day
It’s usually just crying kids. Always an adventure trying to hold the baby between shots.
Justin Thomas
Back-to-back hole-in-ones with Rickie [Fowler in 2016]. That was crazy.
Keegan Bradley
I really cherished when I played with Phil [Mickelson] and Ray Floyd. That was really cool.
Kevin Kisner
Just a collection of all the kids in our group. Saving them from running in the water, picking up clubs and ice creams while trying to hit a golf shot in between all of that.
Matt Fitzpatrick
Having my mate on the bag. He was blown away by it. He was freaked out.
Russell Henley
In 2015, played $2,000 hole-in-ones with Camilo Villegas and Keegan Bradley. Right before I teed off they said, “Do you wanna play with us?” I was like, sure, and Camilo made two. I thought, surely, we’re not going to make even one.
Stewart Cink
I made a hole-in-one with my dad caddying for me about 20 years ago. A friend of my parents painted a scene for me.
Tony Finau
The famous hole-in-one I had. It was the most euphoric I’ve ever been on the grounds of Augusta National followed by the most devastated I’ve ever been there.
Webb Simpson
I made a hole-in-one on the ninth hole with my longtime swing coach Ted Kiegiel who caddied for me that day. He also used to work at Augusta National.
Xander Schauffele
I remember being so rattled how close everyone was to the green. I know we’re going but we’re not that good.
Zach Johnson
Making a hole-in-one at No. 7 and giving my buddy’s dad the golf ball is first to jump to mind. Jack Nicklaus’s grandson making a hole-in-one on nine, that was right in front of me and pretty cool. But my favorite story at the Par-3 are having my kids caddie for me. The amount of pictures we have both digital and on the wall, just from that — what is it, an hour and ten minutes of my life? — is immense.
