The Commanders are looking to bolster their defense this offseason, and recently hosted a meeting with a top safety in the draft that would certainly help the secondary.
Jonas Sanker tells me that he visited Washington on Tuesday for a meeting, not a workout with the team. This isn’t the first meeting Sanker has had with the Commanders, as he also met with the team at the Senior Bowl and the NFL combine.
The former Virginia Cavalier is a versatile defender who can line up in the box, out deep, and even as a slot corner. Jonas Sanker isn’t afraid to make contact and led all FBS DBs in solo tackles over the last two years with 166, according to PFF. He also has a knack for getting to the ball with his explosive closing speed to break up the pass or lay a hit on the receiver. Sanker finished 2024 with 15 coverage stops, which tied for 11th in the country, and forced an incompletion rate of 15.4% to go with it.

Washington could line Sanker up in the box to blitz the quarterback, stuff the run, or drop into coverage with his 6-foot, 206-lb frame. His ability to find the alley against the run could also make him a high-upside special-teams player in addition to his instant playing time on defense. Sanker would be a major addition to the Commanders with his reliability in coverage and the run game as a chess piece for Dan Quinn and the coaching staff.
