In a tight win-or-go-home Game 7, an unlikely hero emerged for the Golden State Warriors when they needed it most.
While it looked like Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green would have to lead the Warriors past the Houston Rockets to punch a ticket to the second round of the postseason, it was Buddy Hield who took over in Game 7 on Sunday.
The veteran sharpshooter tallied a game-high 33 points on 12-of-15 shooting from the field with nine made triples in 37 minutes to fuel the Warriors’ 103-89 win in Game 7 to eliminate the No. 2 seed Rockets. Hield set the tone early, scoring 22 of his points in the first half, including a buzzer-beater from near halfcourt at the end of the first quarter. Hield’s 33 points in Game 7 was his highest scoring effort of the 2024-25 season with the Warriors. Hield didn’t score over 30 points or play over 35 minutes in the regular season.
While Hield couldn’t miss, Curry started the game ice cold, scoring just three points in the first half. However, a late barrage from Curry, including 14 points in the fourth quarter helped put away the Rockets. Curry finished the game with just 22 points, but stuffed the box score in other categories. Curry led the Warriors with 10 rebounds to go along with seven assists, two steals and two blocked shots in 46 minutes.
Butler added 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in 45 minutes in Game 7. Green helped Golden State’s scoring effort with 16 points, a pair of made triples to go along with six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal in 40 minutes. Green’s 16 points was his highest-scoring output of the seven-game series against the Rockets.
The Warriors will now get Monday off before traveling to Minnesota to meet Anthony Edwards and the red-hot Timberwolves in the second round of the postseason.
