The spring sports season continues to be a roll of the dice with the weather, with the schedule printed up at the start of a week not resembling what is actually played.

Golf hopes to finally get started this week after Brighton and Howell tried to play last Monday at Oakland University, only to have the event called because of snow about midway through the round.

Sports like lacrosse and soccer can be played in any conditions, but the weather was so miserable Thursday that even the Hartland at Northville soccer game was postponed.

The weather was nice enough Saturday for track and field athletes to compete on the first busy invitational weekend of the season. When putting together this week’s Livingston Daily Athlete of the Week ballot, I avoided the temptation to just fill the list with track and field performers.

Voting is open until 3 p.m. Wednesday. Vote early, vote often.

RELATED:Top performances from first busy weekend of track and field season

Sophia Balla, Howell lacrosse: Balla had four goals and one assist during a 19-2 victory over Flushing and three goals and two assists during a 12-10 loss to Livonia.

Grant Barber, Hartland lacrosse: Barber scored five goals and two assists during Hartland’s 12-6 victory over Grand Ledge.

Becka Lethorn, Charyl Stockwell track and field: Lethorn won pole vault at the Whitmore Lake Invitational with a leap of 9 feet, 9 inches.

Jack MacGregor, Howell track and field: MacGregor won the 3,200-meter run in 9:36.00 in the Lansing Catholic Relays. He was on first- and second-place relay teams. He won the 1,600 and tied for first in the 800 in a dual meet against Novi.

Olivia Sebestyen, Brighton soccer: Sebestyen scored twice for Brighton in a 3-0 victory over Plymouth.
