While the Lakers and Angels went a combined 0-5 on their trips to Minneapolis this weekend, USC baseball made the same trip and had a very different outcome. The Trojans traveled to the Twin Cities over the weekend and swept Minnesota, picking up three crucial Big Ten victories.
Perhaps the most impressive part of the weekend was that USC won three games in three very different ways. On Friday, the Trojans put 16 runs on the board in an offensive explosion. On Saturday, Caden Aoki pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on two hits over nine innings. On Sunday, the Trojans scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull out an improbable 3-2 comeback victory.
After a successful weekend in the Midwest, the Trojans now return to Southern California for a massive week ahead. USC will visit Cal State Northridge on Tuesday before hosting rival UCLA in a three-games Crosstown Showdown series at Great Park this weekend.
The Bruins currently sit in second place in the Big Ten at 16-5, while the Trojans are tied for third at 14-7. Hence, this weekend will be a huge series that will likely have major conference title implications.
USC is 29-14 and improving its RPI as we speak. The Trojans are significantly improving their chances of making the NCAA Tournament. They need to remain hot down the stretch so that they don’t get snubbed the way they were in 2023.
