The transfer portal has given some of the top college basketball teams in the country a chance to rebuild their roster and make a quick turnaround back to the national title contenders.

While Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies were riding an all-time high, winning back-to-back national championships, they received a commitment from a talented guard in the WCC.

Former Saint Mary’s star Aidan Mahaney previously committed to UConn before the 2024-25 season.

It was previously viewed as a major recrting bicroy for Hurley and company, but Mahaney has now made the decision to depart from the Huskies.

After just one season, NBA draft expert Jonathan Givony revealed that Aidan Mahaney has officially transferred to UC Santa Barbara.

During his lone season with the UConn Huskies, Mahaney averaged 4.5 points, 0.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. According to ESPN, Mahaney started in five games while appearing in 34 games for the Huskies.

Mahaney played 12.3 minutes per game during the 2024-25 season at UConn.

Before competing with the UConn Huskies during the 2024-25 college basketball season, Mahaney played two seasons at Saint Mary’s.

During his three-year career in the collegiate atmosphere, Mahaney has recorded 10.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

While Mahaney didn’t see the floor often for the Huskies, it’s certainly a loss for UConn.

UConn will be missing one of its best ball handlers and a player who has extensive experience in the NCAA Tournament, having competed in March Madness with Saint Mary’s and the Huskies.
