While many break down the transfer portal, and the many players that are currently in the portal, determining who Michigan State might go after, a name emerged that makes a ton of sense for Michigan State and has local connections.
As identified in an article by Spartans Wire showcasing ten potential prospects that MSU could pursue, Brit Harris was one of the prospects that makes sense for MSU.
Harris, a 6’4″ and 170 pound combo guard is someone that would slide right into that role of being a shooting guard and a backup point guard for Michigan State, a position of need for the Spartans.
Looking at Harris, and his connection to the Spartans, he is a native of Gary, Indiana, just under three hours away from MSU. He also started his collegiate career at Grand Valley State, spending two years in Allendale. Following his time at GVSU, he made the move to the division one level playing a season with South Carolina Upstate.
At USC Upstate, he averaged 11.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists, while having very good shooting splits. Harris shot 37.3% from 3-point land, while also shooting 63% at the rim, leading to a 57.1% effective field goal percentage. He can score on all three levels, being the perfect shot creator for Michigan State, who is in need of someone that is able to score in a pinch.
While it isn’t any secret that MSU is not going to be big spenders in the portal, meaning MSU is going to have to evaluate talent at this level and be able to hit on a prospect. Harris is someone who will have interest in joining MSU and the advanced analytics are what you want to see from a prospect like this.
In the latest update, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Louisville, Florida State, SMU, Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, TCU, Temple, Texas A&M, Penn State, Butler and Grand Canyon have reached out to the transfer guard.
With MSU needing two guards and ball handlers to enter the fold, be on the lookout for the Spartans to entertain Harris as the fit seems like it couldn’t be any better.
