QUINIX Sport News: Top Virginia high school football recruits in the class of 2026

Over the last month, USA TODAY High School Sports has looked at some of the best football prospects from the country’s recruiting hotbeds.

The series started with the best 2026 recruits out of Texas and has expanded to six more states. It’s time to add another to that mix. 

This time, we’ll head to the Bayou State. Here are the top 2026 recruits to keep an eye on from Louisiana.

TOP RECRUITS:Alabama / California / Florida / Georgia / Louisiana / Ohio / Tennessee

Savion Hiter

School: Louisa County (Mineral)

Position: Running Back

Commitment: Uncommitted

Summary: Hiter, the No. 1 running back in this year’s class, is coming off a monster junior season. In 2024, he rushed for 1.698 yards and 26 touchdowns on 156 carries while also recording 56 tackles and seven sacks on defense.

Hiter’s recruitment remains wide open, but he has officials lined up to Ohio State (May 30), Georgia (June 6), Michigan (June 13), and Tennessee (June 20).

Darius Gray

School: St. Christopher’s School (Richmond)

Position: Interior Offensive Lineman

Commitment: Uncommitted

Summary: Big but very mobile, Gray is one of the most sought after linemen in this recruiting cycle.

His June is going to be really busy with official visits to Tennessee (June 6), Auburn (June 10), LSU (June 13), Penn State (June 17), and South Carolina (June 20).

Valdin Sone

School: Blue Ridge School (Dyk)

Position: Defensive Lineman

Commitment: Uncommitted

Summary: Sone spent last season at Dyke helping the program go unbeaten and winning the VISAA Division II state title. He then went back to Sweden and helped lead their program to a win over Denmark in the 2024/25 IFAF European Junior Football Championships.

June will see him hitting the trail in SEC country with official visits to Alabama (June 6), Florida (June 13) and Oklahoma (June 20).

Andre Clarke

School: Hermitage (Richmond)

Position: Cornerback

Commitment: Uncommitted

Summary: Clarke is a big defensive back, standing at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds. That size alone has multiple Power Four programs trying to get him on campus.

Currently, his official visits schedule includes SMU (May 2), Syracuse (May 30), Kentucky (June 6), Michigan (June 13), and Miami (June 20).

Dyzier Carter

School: Louisa County (Mineral)

Position: Wide Receiver

Commitment: Rutgers

Summary: Rutgers landed a pledge from Carter last July but his recruitment is likely far from over.

Michigan, Georgia and Penn State are three programs in particular that remain in pursuit.

Davion Brown

School: Trinity Episcopal School (Richmond)

Position: Wide Receiver

Commitment: Uncommitted

Summary: Brown is coming off a junior season where he caught 42 passes for 946 yards and 10 touchdowns in eight games.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, Brown has a ton of upside as he continues to grow. He has official visits scheduled to Penn State (June 6), Georgia (June 13) and Duke (June 20).

Carter Scruggs

School: Loudoun County (Leesburg)

Position: Interior Offensive Lineman

Commitment: Uncommitted

Summary: James Franklin and the Nittany Lions are in a great spot to land one of Virginia’s top prospects in Scruggs.

Michigan also appears to be in the running and has official visits to both programs scheduled in June.

Travis Johnson

School: Oscar Smith (Chesapeake)

Position: Wide Receiver

Commitment: Uncommitted

Summary: A 6-foot-3 weapon outside, Johnson has many programs from around the country coveting for his talent.

Georgia (May 16), South Carolina (May 30), Penn State (June 6), and Michigan (June 13) appear to be the front runners in his recruitment, with official visits to each scheduled.

Amare Gough

School: Thomas Jefferson (Richmond)

Position: Wide Receiver

Commitment: Uncommitted

Summary: Gough paced the Vikings’ receiving corp last season, catching 39 passes for 893 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Gough has scheduled official visits to Virginia (June 5), Maryland (June 13), and Virginia Tech (June 20).

Thomas Wilder

School: Green Run (Virginia Beach)

Position: Offensive Tackle

Commitment: Uncommitted

Summary: A 6-foot-6, 285-pounder, Wilder is an up-and-coming recruit with several Power Four programs coming his way.

Maryland and Virginia Tech appear to be the favorites in his recruitment and he has officials to both schools coming up in June.
