No. 12 Tennessee (38-11, 14-10 SEC) will host No. 10 Vanderbilt (34-15, 14-10 SEC) for a three-game Southeastern Conference series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Rankings reflect the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

The Vols and Commodores will face each other Friday-Sunday with two weeks remaining in the regular season. The SEC Tournament will take place May 20-25 at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama.

Tennessee enters Friday’s series opener with a one-game win streak. The Vols defeated Indiana State, 12-1 in seven innings, Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Vanderbilt enters the Tennessee series with a one-game losing streak. The Commodores lost at Louisville, 5-4, on Tuesday.

Eighth-year Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello discussed playing Vanderbilt after the Indiana State game.

“Don’t know a ton other than a good amount of returning players,” Vitello said. “A couple incomers that are young that were always kind of on the circuit, where you saw them doing all the the popular stuff, where the the best players get invited to when they’re fully capable of getting innings and being productive as freshmen in the league. Some of our guys know some of their younger guys, so we’ll take a look, see what we got, and probably what we got is another SEC team, which means they’ll be organized. They’ll be well coached, they’ll compete and they’ll challenge us to play our best ball over the course of three days.

“Again, for me, I was telling John (Wilkerson), I just kind of would like to play a Friday, and I’m not complaining, like hey we need to play better in certain situations, all that stuff, but it’d be nice to play at the scheduled 5:30 (p.m. EDT) time with relatively normal weather in the normal Lindsay Nelson Stadium crowd, and let our guys prepare the way they did for two and a half days like they did last week, and let’s let it play out, see where we’re at. Feel better about making assessment from that.”

Friday’s series opener between the Vols and Commodores is slated for 5:30 p.m. EDT and will be televised by SEC Network. First pitch for game No. 2 on Saturday is scheduled for 5 p.m. EDT (ESPN2), and Sunday’s series finale will take place at 3 p.m. EDT (ESPN2).
