This offseason, there was speculation that Kirk Cousins could return to Minnesota in his No. 8 jersey. Although it looks like the Vikings are ready to move forward without him, the No. 8 jersey will return to the quarterback room in 2025.
On Friday, the Vikings announced the jersey numbers for their offseason additions. Quarterback Sam Howell, acquired on Day 3 of the draft via a pick swap with the Seattle Seahawks, will wear No. 8 this year.
That news doesn’t shut the door on a Cousins reunion, as he is still seeking a trade out of Atlanta. He changed his number to 18 when he signed with Atlanta last offseason, but we know that number is reserved for Justin Jefferson, and may never be worn by another Viking as long as the franchise exists.
But it does mean that if Cousins were to be acquired, he may have to pay a little extra to retain his old number.
