Southwick Regional 22, Amherst-Pelham 6

AMHERST – Southwick exploded for 13 runs in the first inning and cruised to a convincing victory on the road against Amherst-Pelham on Friday, 22-6.

All 13 runs came with two outs.

Hudson Maymon got things started for Southwick with a lead-off double. With two outs and the bases loaded, Donovan Cummings smacked a two-run single. With the bases loaded again, Collin Taylor scored on a wild pitch. Alex Trzasko plated two more runs with a base hit. Trzasko eventually came around to score on a balk. Ian Garvey scored on a wild pitch. Amherst looked as if it might finally be out of the inning on a routine defensive play but an error extended the inning and scored a run. The inning continued.

Nolan Avery belted an RBI double for the team’s ninth run. Avery scored on a wild pitch. Cummings drove in another run with an RBI double. One more run scored as Southwick opened up a 13-0 lead.

Eighth grade pitcher Andell Novak started on the mound for Southwick (4-5).

Patrick Moore homers in Bombers victory

Westfield 8, Taconic 3

A five-run third inning proved to be the difference as Westfield picked up a key road victory Friday.

Westfield lead-off batter Patrick Moore went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs, and an RBI. Ryan Garvey went 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs. Paul Lawry finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. Josh Wagner had a hit, two walks, a run, and two RBI.

Westfield starting pitcher Jackson LaValley went the distance, scattering five hits, four walks, and three runs over seven complete innings, while striking out 11 batters.

Antonio Simpson leads hit attack

Westfield Technical Academy 18, Sci-Tech 0

Antonio Simpson went 1-for-2 with a triple, three walks, four runs, and five stolen bases for Westfield Tech. Tigers pitcher Josiah Pouliot struck out four batters in two innings of work.

Bombers get revenge

Westfield 14, Agawam 13

Westfield (4-2) avenged its first loss of the season to Agawam on April 15 with its first win against the Brownies this year on Friday.

Milana Shuman paced Westfield with five goals and one assist. Ellie Adams scored four goals and Kayli Bush had three goals and two assists for the Brownies. Kara Racicot (assist) and Kiera St. Peter each had a goal.

Isabella Spaulding (assist) and Olivia Govani each had three goals for Agawam (5-1). It was the Brownies first loss of the season.

Adelaide Jordan’s 6 goals sink Bombers

East Longmeadow 15, Westfield 4

East Longmeadow’s Adelaide Jordan led all scorers with six goals and one assist in an April 17 contest.

Westfield’s Kara Racicot scored twice. Bombers’ Kiera St. Peter and Ellie Adams each tallied a goal, and Milan Shuman had an assist.

Rams improve to 6-2 with 3rd straight victory

Southwick 3, Granby 0

Southwick won its third straight match to improve to 6-2 this season. The hometown Rams defeated Granby, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23.

Nicolas Spina (block) recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs, Phong Tran (five digs, ½ block) racked up 26 assists, and River Thompson (six digs, three aces, ½ block) delivered 12 kills for Southwick.

Southwick’s Caleb Gaudet and Tyce Wilson (two kills, ½ block) each collected nine digs. Zachariah Frailey (dig, 2 ½ blocks), and Braeden Iglesias (two kills, dig, two blocks) also contributed for the Rams.
