Editor’s Note: Come back this weekend for comments from every record-breaking athlete.
The only thing faster than the Zebras on Friday night was the pace at which school records were falling.
Claremore track-and-field athletes delivered a historic showing at the Zebra Invitational on the Andy Payne Track, breaking four school records in a single evening — three on the girls side and one from the boys.
Leading the charge was senior Emma Robinson, who continued her incredible spring season with a dominant victory in the girls 1600 meters, clocking a school-record 5:01.38 to win the race by nearly 14 seconds.
She shattered her own previous record of 5:10.26 set earlier this season. Robinson wasn’t done, either — she returned to win the 800 in a personal-best 2:18.37, then closed the meet by anchoring the 4×400 relay, which placed seventh in 4:29.59.
The Claremore girls sprint relays were also electric, rewriting the record books in the 4×100 and the 4×200.
The quartet of Addison Doyle, Addison Reavis, Ava Jestes and Lynie Bailey blazed to a time of 48.78 seconds in the 4×100, eclipsing the previous mark of 49.81 they set earlier this season. The same four placed second in the 4×200 with a record time of 1:44.11.
Doyle continued her breakout campaign with a third-place finish in the 100 meters, setting a personal best of 12.67 seconds, and also ran a leg of the 4×400. Reavis placed third in the 400 with a season-best 1:00.34, while Jestes clocked a PR of 13.61 in the 100, placing 17th.
Bailey added a fifth-place finish in the 100 (12.98) and took second in the 200 (26.76).
Not to be outdone, senior Landon King launched the boys discus 171 feet, 8 inches, breaking his previous best by more than 22 feet. His throw not only topped the field Friday but also ranks in the top 100 nationally this season.
