Longtime rivals Texas and Texas A&M will wrap up their three-game set Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas.
The No. 1 Longhorns are looking to finish off a sweep of the Aggies, who they beat 2-1 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday to improve to 36-5 on the season.
When it comes to these two schools and programs, the intrigue goes beyond what happens on the field. After leading Texas A&M to the championship of last year’s College World Series, coach Jim Schlossnagle controversially left the Aggies to become the new head coach at Texas. He has thrived in his first season with the Longhorns, leading them to the top spot in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, with 19 wins in their past 21 games. Texas A&M, meanwhile, has struggled at times without him. The nation’s preseason No. 1 team is 24-18 after the losses to Texas on Friday and Saturday, though the Aggies had won 10 of their previous 11 games entering the series.
