The Horns247 team has its finger on the pulse of Texas transfer portal news, recruiting, coaching staff moves and more as Arch Manning is expected to take over at quarterback in 2025
The Texas Longhorns bowed out in the College Football Playoff semifinals for the second year in a row, falling to Ohio State in this year’s Cotton Bowl. Head coach Steve Sarkisian now turns his attention to the 2025 Texas football roster, which has been shifting in the days following the loss to the Buckeyes. The early deadline to enter the 2025 NFL Draft and the deadline for Texas players to declare entry into the transfer portal has passed (Jan. 15), and the Longhorns are dealing with several key departures. Quarterback Quinn Ewers declared for the NFL Draft after leading the Longhorns to a 21-5 record over the last two seasons. His departure clears the way for standout Arch Manning to start in 2025 after playing in a limited reserve role this season.
The Longhorns are bringing in the top-ranked recruiting class for 2025, so expectations will be as high as ever in Austin next season. If you want the latest Texas football news, be sure to see what the proven team of insiders are saying at Horns247, the 247Sports affiliate that covers Texas.

Texas football roster news
Arch Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli, was the No. 1 overall quarterback recruit in his class, but he has spent time behind Ewers on the Texas football depth chart. He completed 68% of his passes for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions this season. The Longhorns are losing four of their five starting offensive linemen from this year’s team, along with their top three wide receivers.
No returning pass-catcher on the roster has more than 500 career yards at Texas, but rising sophomore Ryan Wingo and junior DeAndre Moore appear poised to take a step forward. The Longhorns have four incoming recruits at the wide receiver position, but they failed to snag Georgia Tech transfer Eric Singleton Jr. from the portal during the winter window. They are also replacing second-team All-SEC tight end Gunnar Helm, so they will need someone to step up at that position as well.
Defensively, Texas lost three linemen within the first three days of the transfer portal window opening. The Longhorns were stacked up front this season, but Alfred Collins, Jermayne Lole and Bill Norton are all out of eligibility. They have already started to address that issue, adding Cole Brevard (Purdue) and Travis Shaw (North Carolina) from the portal. Get more Texas football roster updates at Horns247.
