The NCAA transfer portal opened Wednesday and will close April 25.

Former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava entered the NCAA transfer portal Wednesday with a do not contact tag.

“Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava has entered the transfer portal with a do not contact tag,” Pete Nakos of On3 announced.

Tennessee and head coach Josh Heupel announced the Vols were moving on from Iamaleava after he did not attend practice on April 11 or the Orange & White Game on April 12.

“Today’s landscape of college football, it’s different than what it has been, and it’s unfortunate, just the situation and where we’re at with Nico,” Heupel said. “I want to thank him for everything that he’s done since he’s gotten here. That’s as a recruit to who he was as a player and how he competed inside of the building, so a great appreciation for that side of it.”

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound signal-caller appeared in 18 games for the Vols from 2023-24. He completed 241-of-379 passing attempts for 2,930 yards, 21 touchdowns and five interceptions. Iamaleava also recorded 435 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 129 attempts.
