Maryland guard Rodney Rice committed to the Trojans after entering the NCAA transfer portal on March 31. He was at Maryland during the 2024-25 campaign after playing for Virginia Tech from 2022-24.
As a sophomore with the Terrapins in the 2024-25 season, Rice was teammates with Ja’Kobi Gillespie.
Gillespie committed to the Vols and head coach Rick Barnes on April 4. He also played at Belmont from 2022-25. He is from Greeneville High School in Greeneville, Tennessee and earned 2022 Tennessee 3A Mr. Basketball honors.
During Gillespie’s collegiate career, the latest Vols’ roster addition has appeared in 93 games, including 68 starts. Gillespie is averaging 13.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.9 steals per contest in college.
