Spring Break has arrived for Cumberland County Schools after another solid week of high school sports. While we press pause on the spring sports regular season and head toward Easter Sunday, it’s time to recognize outstanding performances from April 7-13, 2025, with the 910Preps Athlete of the Week award.
Vote in the poll below as often as you like until 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 17. Results will be announced Friday. Coaches and athletic directors are asked to send nominees to [email protected] each week.

910Preps Athlete of the Week nominees for April 7-13, 2025
- Amari Adams, Cape Fear softball — Batting .710 to rank 13th and scoring 45 runs to rank No. 1 in the state among public and private schools in all classifications, Adams padded her stats in a 3-0 week for Cape Fear. The junior went 9-for-12 on the week with 11 runs scored and three RBIs. She also drew a pair of walks and two stolen bases as the Colts beat Lee County, Jack Britt and Wilmington Hoggard by a combined score of 46-9.
- Gibson Bray, Terry Sanford baseball — The Bulldogs’ multi-sport senior and FTCC commit scored nine times and had three multi-hit games in a 4-0 week for Terry Sanford. Bray went 6-for-12 on the week with a double and three RBIs from the two spot. Bray also drew three walks, stole a base, and his nine runs scored pushed his season total to 26 — second in the NCHSAA 3A East to teammate Josh Mozingo.
- Nicholas Coleman, E.E. Smith track & field — The junior had a pair of first-place finishes at last week’s AAC meet. Coleman’s long jump of 19-5 won first and so did his shot put throw of 36-6. He also finished third in long jump at 17-5.75. Two days later at teh Kathy McMillan Invitational at Hoke, Coleman set a personal record and won the discus toss at 125-7.
- JaNiyah Ford, Jack Britt track & field — The Buccanneers junior set a personal record with her first-place 200-meter time of 25.87 at the U8 meet at Reid Ross. Ford also won the 100-meter run with a time of 12.89.
- Alisha Humphreys Rodriguez, Pine Forest girls soccer — The Trojans freshman had a pair of goals and an assist to preserve a tie against Overhills to keep Pine Forest unbeaten and atop the All American Conference standings at 10-0-1 (13-0-2 overall). Humpreys Rodriguez scored on a penalty kick and she also had six steals.
- Ethan O’Neil, Westover track & field — O’Neil ran the 100-meter dash in a personal-record time of 10.63 to take first place at the AAC meet at Triton last week. The senior also posted a personal-record 22.18 to win the 200 meters.
- Jordynn Parnell, South View softball — The junior Duke softball commit struck out 15 as the Tigers dealt Gray’s Creek its first conference loss with a 3-0 shutout, becoming the progam’s all-time strikeout leader with 513 in her three-year career. Parnell has 139 strikeouts on the season, ranking 15th in the state across all associations and classifications.
- Tai Phillips, Cape Fear track & field — The sophomore sprinter took first place in the 100 meters at last week’s United 8 Conference meet at Reid Ross with a time of 11.04.
- Aideen Roberg, Cape Fear girls lacrosse — Roberg netted four goals, won four draws and caused a turnover in an 8-1 victory over Jack Bitt last week as the Colts notched their second conference win.
- Bella Ross, Jack Britt track & field — Ross uncorked an 18-foot long jump to claim first place at Wednesday’s U8 meet and then finished second at 12.39 in the 100-meter dash at the Kathy McMillan Invitational on Saturday at Hoke County.
- Peter Sauveur, Douglas Byrd track & field — The junior hit a personal record last week with his U8 meet-winning high jump of 5-10.
- Peyton Stanton, Gray’s Creek baseball — The junior catcher started his week going 5-for-5 with an RBI and run scored in a 14-7 win over United 8 Conference-leading Lumberton. Then, he went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored in another payback win over South View, 6-2, and 1-for-2 in a 15-4 win over Oscar Smith (Virginia) with a double, two RBIs and two sacrifice flies. Stanton was 8-for-11 on the week for a .727 batting average. For the season, he’s batting a team-high .410.
- Eason Turner, Cape Fear baseball — The Colts freshman right-hander earned his third win of the season last week in relief. Turner pitched 5⅔ innings, striking out six, walking two and giving up one earned run on three hits in Cape Fear’s 5-3 victory over Lee County.
- Sienna Wilson, Gray’s Creek girls soccer — The senior scored two goals in each of Gray’s Creek’s three shutouts last week. She also had two assists against Seventy-First and an assist in each of the Bears’ wins over Lumberton and Douglas Byrd. Wilson tallied 16 points for the week with six goals and four assists.
