Jax Ulbrich, the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, admitted to prank calling Shedeur Sanders on Friday night during the 2025 NFL Draft.

The 21-year-old took to Instagram to release a statement and apologize to Sanders.

“On Friday night I made a tremendous mistake. Shedeur, what I did was completely inexcusable, embarassing and shameful. I’m so sorry I took away from your moment, it was selfish and childish. I could never imagine getting ready to celebrate one of the greatest moments of your life and I made a terrible mistake and messed with that moment. Thank you for accepting my call earlier today. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”

Ulbrich pretended to be New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis when he called Sanders and told them the Saints were going to draft him with their next pick.

“Let’s be legendary,” Sanders replied, before Ulbrich told him he was going to have to wait a little longer before his name was called and hung up.

A video of the call was posted to social media.

Sanders was live streaming at the time of the call and noted how his number was only available to NFL teams. The 23-year-old was eventually drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the 144th pick.

It turns out Ulbrich, according to the Falcons statement, “unintentionally came across” Sanders’ number from an iPad while he was visiting his parents. Ulbrich wrote down the number and later called Sanders.

Jeff Ulbrich, who was the New York Jets interim coach last year after they fired Robert Saleh, was unaware his son took Sanders’ number from the iPad.

“The Atlanta Falcons do not condone this behavior and send our sincere apologies to Shedeur Sanders and his family, who we have been in contact with to apologize,” the Falcons said in a statement.
