The Brooklyn Nets are coming off a 2024-25 NBA season in which the team finished with a 26-56 record, good for sixth-worst in the league. As is the case for many teams that re rebuilding, Brooklyn is looking to acquire as much talent as possible and there is one player whose future is uncertain at the moment.
Similar to the Nets, the Memphis Grizzlies are in the beginning stages of their offseason after getting swept in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs to the Oklahoma City Thunder. One of the main storylines concerning the Grizzlies is the thought that star guard Ja Morant could be on the trade market with the team having replaced Taylor Jenkins with Tuomas Lisalo on a full-time basis.
How that involves the Nets is that for a team like Memphis that has a number of ways it could go, Brooklyn could be the kind of team that can give them a mix of players and Draft picks in exchange for Morant. ESPN’s Tim MacMahon recently said that there are “whispers” around the league that Morant could be a potential trade candidate this summer if the Grizzlies are trying to switch things up.
While many around the NBA believe that Morant is a difference-maker as a player, but Memphis has not had much success in the postseason with Morant at the helm. When it comes to a team like the Nets, there is also the thought of being concerned about Morant’s actions off the court and even on the court as well.
At the end of the day, Morant is a player that’s a two-time All-Star, one-time All-NBAer, and finished the season with averages of 23.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game on 45.4% shooting from the field and 30.9% from three-point land. Brooklyn still has almost two months to decide how it wants to operate through the summer, but Morant could be on the table of Memphis decides to go in a different direction.
