Tyler Shough will be a seasoned quarterback, to say the least, coming out of Louisville. His college career ended at Louisville, took a pitstop at Texas Tech and started with Oregon. During his time at Oregon, Shough overlapped with a few current and former New Orleans Saints, most notably Juwan Johnson.

Shough spent the majority of his time in Eugene backing up Justin Herbert, and that’s what he was doing when Johnson transferred to Oregon. Shough entered the game in relief duty, and threw 15 passes over the course of that season, none of them targeted Johnson. Though there were no completions between the two, Johnson and Shough did share the field together. NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill found a play with both players in the game against South Carolina.

Since that year, Johnson has played half a decade in the NFL and signed three contracts with the Saints. Shough will be making his rookie debut this season. Using Johnson as a comparison, is a great tool to really show how long Shough spent in college. Shough spent the next five years playing college football, and 2019 wasn’t even his first year out of high school.

The list doesn’t stop at Johnson. Ugo Amadi spent his last year in college in 2018, and he was teammates with Shough at Oregon. Shough also spent some time playing behind former Saints offensive linemen Calvin Throckmorton and Shane Lemieux. None of these players were in college this decade. Injuries decimated and prolonged Shough’s college career. As a result, he was teammates with players who have seen multiple contracts and multiple teams in the NFL.
