BOSTON — Kristian Campbell missed the Red Sox’ last two games with rib discomfort. On Saturday, despite being expected to return, he’ll miss a third.
After a three-hit night Friday, David Hamilton is starting at second base for the third straight game as Campbell, who is still expected to avoid the injured list, fully recovers. Hamilton is hitting seventh for the Red Sox against righty Bailey Ober.
“He swung the bat today, feeling better,” manager Alex Cora said about Campbell. “Most likely, he’ll play tomorrow.”
With Triston Casas out with a left patellar tendon rupture in his knee, Boston will turn to Romy Gonzalez at first base. Gonzalez is hitting sixth on Saturday with Abraham Toro being called up as a backup option.
Hunter Dobbins, who was called up Friday when Walker Buehler was placed on the injured list with shoulder bursitis, will get the start on the mound. The rookie has won his first two big league outings in April, with Boston scoring 15 and 10 runs in those starts, respectively.
The Red Sox snapped a two-game losing streak with Friday’s 6-1 win and are now 10-6 over their last 16 games since April 15. Brayan Bello’s quality start Friday was the sixth straight by a Boston starter; that’s the club’s longest such streak since the rotation put together eight straight quality starts from August 4-13, 2017.
Saturday’s game will start at 4:10 p.m. ET. The Red Sox also shuffled their bullpen pregame by optioning Luis Guerrero to Triple-A and reinstating Brennan Bernardino from the bereavement list.
