A pair of former Pensacola Catholic football standouts have put their names in the NCAA transfer portal.
Jayvion Showers and Demontrae Gaston, who both graduated in 2024 from the Crusaders, posted on social media within an hour of each other that they entered the transfer portal from their respective programs.
Showers just wrapped up his freshman season at Arkansas State, where he redshirted, while Gaston completed his first year at Toledo. Neither player saw any time on the field and both redshirted with their teams.
Showers posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday, April 16, that he was “officially in the transfer portal,” along with the email from the NCAA.
Gaston called it “God’s plan” on X, along with a graphic.

“I’ve grown a lot both on and off the field, and I’ll always be grateful for the memories and relationships I’ve built here,” Gaston posted about his time at Toledo. “I will be entering my name into the transfer portal with four years of eligibility left.”
Both players were standouts at Pensacola Catholic, rated as three-star recruits by the time they signed with their respective programs. As of Thursday, April 17, neither had posted about any new offers to come their way yet.
Showers, a wide receiver, was second on the team his senior year at Pensacola Catholic with 500 yards receiving and a team-high six touchdowns. His junior year was a breakout year with 874 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns, however.
In three seasons total, Showers recorded 1,750 yards receiving on 113 catches for 24 touchdowns. Showers was a PNJ All-Area Honorable Mention in 2021, followed by a First Team selection in 2022 and a Second Team honor in 2023.
Gaston was a multi-tool in his time at Pensacola Catholic. He was utilized on both sides of the ball his sophomore and junior years, tallying 888 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. But he was a defensive standout, recording 159 tackles and four interceptions over three seasons.
His senior year, he posted 79 tackles and two interceptions, adding three caused fumbles. Gaston, in 2021, was a PNJ Second Team All-Area selection at wide receiver, an honorable mention at Athlete his junior year, and a First Team selection his senior year at linebacker.
