Former Oregon Ducks defensive back Brandon Johnson got an opportunity to continue his football career over the weekend, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL draft.

He didn’t spend a ton of time in Eugene, but the one season season he played was memorable. Johnson is a feisty corner who had five passes defended this past season and wasn’t afraid to get dirty, registering the third-most tackles among Oregon defensive backs.

Johnson transferred to Oregon from Duke, where he served as a nickel corner for the Ducks in 2024. In his college career, Johnson had 173 tackles, 22 TFLs, eight sacks, and three interceptions.

He did not participate in the NFL Combine, but the long lineage of Ducks defenders who carved out successful careers should instill confidence in Johnson’s abilities. The most notable is Mel Renfro, who was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. But there are others like Alex Malden and Anthony Newman who weren’t stars but still had long, respectable careers.

If Johnson’s exceptional ball skills and physicality translate to the NFL then he should be able to follow that mold.
