You don’t see this every day but with the transfer portal in full effect, perhaps we’ll see much more of this.

Once a hated Washington Husky, cornerback Jabbar Muhammad transferred to Oregon for one season and endeared himself to the Duck faithful. Having a nice season that turned into a continued career, signing as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t hurt either.

Muhammad played just one season at Oregon, but he fit in nicely into defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi’s system and was a valuable member of the Duck defense in 2024. Muhammad had 41 tackles, one for loss and 12 defended passes. For his career, which included three seasons at Oklahoma State, one at Washington and this final season in Eugene, Muhammad had 159 tackles, eight for loss, 2.5 sacks, four interceptions and 40 defended passes.

Although he didn’t have any interceptions as a Duck, Muhammad was often tasked with covering the opponent’s No. 1 receiver, which usually worked out in the Ducks‘ favor. Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, regarded as the top receiver in the country, had 100 yards receiving and a touchdown in Oregon’s 32-31 win over the Buckeyes. But considering 38 yards came on one play, Muhammad had more success against Smith than the majority of the corners out there.

When he arrives in Jaguars camp, Muhammad will surely be a presence and have a good chance at making the roster. Oregon is quickly developing a reputation of being a great landing spot for a senior transfer defender who wants to improve his draft stock. First, it was Christian Gonzalez, then Khyree Jackson, then Muhammad, and now defensive backs Theran Johnson (Northwestern) and Dillon Thieneman look to carry on this new tradition in Eugene.
