The lifecycle of a college football coordinator moves fast. A play-caller is either good enough to get a better job or not good enough to keep the job. It’s rare to see an offensive coordinator last more than three years in one spot, especially at the SEC level. As we enter 2025, only four SEC play callers have been at their school for three years or more.

The last offensive coordinator to last more than three years at LSU was Cam Cameron. He was fired in 2016. Following Cameron, Matt Canada had a one-year stint before Steve Ensminger took the job. Jake Peetz followed Ensminger with a one-year stint. Mike Denbrock arrived with Brian Kelly but left for Notre Dame after two years. Now, Joe Sloan enters year two as LSU’s OC.

We’ll take a look at SEC football’s longest-tenured offensive coordinators. At schools where the head coach runs the offense or has heavy play-calling duties, I’ve credited him with the offensive coordinator title. You’ll see that the four longest-tenured offensive minds in the SEC are all head coaches.

Note: The years column represents how many season’s the coach has held the job entering 2025.

Coach Team Years
Lane Kiffin Ole Miss 5
Josh Heupel Tennessee 4
Steve Sarkisian Texas 4
Billy Napier Florida 3
Kirby Moore Missouri 2
Mike Bobo Georgia 2

These are the only six play-callers in the SEC to be entering year three or more. The rest of the group is either entering year two or prepping for their first year on the job.
