Wisconsin basketball head coach Greg Gard and his staff have been busy in the transfer portal over the last week. The team has landed three commitments to date: guard Nick Boyd, guard Andrew Rohde, and big man Austin Rapp.
As things currently stand, that group ranks as the third-best class in the country per On3.
Gard had his work cut out for him the second his team’s season ended with an NCAA Tournament second-round loss to BYU. It lost three starters plus five of the seven top scorers. The team did well to retain guard John Blackwell (if he withdraws from the NBA Draft) and forward Nolan Winter, though has been even more impressive in the transfer portal.
Wisconsin made a clear effort to land players with high-major experience, as both Boyd and Rohde were starters at prominent programs, San Diego State and Virginia, respectively. In addition to experienced players, the Badgers landed an underrated portal target in Rapp, who joins the program with three years of eligibility remaining.
Not only will these portal additions help the team win in 2025-26, but the addition of Rapp will also help anchor its frontcourt for the next few seasons. That continuity is becoming more and more crucial in the sport’s current age.
Wisconsin still has moves left to make after the transfer departures of Xavier Amos and Daniel Freitag. But with those three key commitments, Wisconsin has done well to improve its 2025-26 outlook. Its class ranking reflects that reality.
