Ohio State football roster news
All eyes will be on the quarterback position next season for Ohio State. Will Howard will move on after spending his graduate transfer year with the Buckeyes. Backup Devin Brown is transferring to California. That leaves redshirt freshman Julian Sayin as the favorite to start next season, though the Buckeyes are also bringing in Tavien St. Clair, the No. 3 overall player in the nation (via 247Sports rankings) in the 2025 signing class.
The Buckeyes haven’t finished worse than fifth in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings since 2019, but Day has also been effective in the portal, landing players such as Howard, running back Quinshon Judkins and safety Caleb Downs.
This year, the Buckeyes have six portal commitments thus far, including a linebacker, an edge rusher, two offensive linemen, a running back and a tight end. The tight end, Max Klare from Purdue, is the highest-ranked player in the class. He’s coming off a big 51-685-4 season with the Boilermakers and he should be a nice complimentary target in an offense that is expected to feature star receivers Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate in 2025.
