What to Know
Indiana and Ohio State are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. Both will face off in a Big Ten battle at 8:00 p.m. ET on Friday at Value City Arena. The Hoosiers are strutting in with some offensive muscle as they’ve averaged 77.5 points per game this season.
Indiana is headed into Friday’s matchup hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They wound up on the wrong side of a bruising 94-69 walloping at the hands of Illinois on Tuesday. That makes it the first time this season the Hoosiers have let down their home crowd.
Indiana’s loss came about despite a quality game from Oumar Ballo, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. With that strong performance, Ballo is now averaging an impressive 10.1 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Ohio State didn’t have quite enough to beat Wisconsin on Tuesday and fell 70-68. The close game was extra heartbreaking for the Buckeyes, who almost overcame a 17 point deficit.
The losing side was boosted by Bruce Thornton, who went 7 for 13 en route to 21 points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he’s played.
Indiana’s defeat ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-5. As for Ohio State, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season.
Friday’s match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Indiana has been crazy accurate this season, having made 46.7% of their field goals per game. However, it’s not like Ohio State struggles in that department as they’ve made 48.2% of their field goals this season. Given these competing strengths, it’ll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Indiana skirted past Ohio State 76-73 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Does Indiana have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ohio State turn the tables on them? We’ll have the answer soon enough.
