The NHL playoffs are going strong, but that hasn’t stopped the league from making announcements about other matters. The league has a 2025 draft lottery coming up soon, and many teams are eager to learn where they will be selecting.

But ahead of the lottery, the NHL has made a massive announcement about the lottery plans. For the first time, the lottery draw will take place live in studio.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported the news on social media.

“The #NHL says that the 2025 Draft Lottery draw will take place live in-studio for the first time on Monday night. Previously, the draw was conducted earlier in a sterile room and cards were flipped on-air.”

This is certainly a big move from the league, and it could get fans to stop complaining about the way things go. Oftentimes, fans have very much disliked the idea of the draw being done away from the action, so now there will be more transparency coming to the teams involved.

The San Jose Sharks have the best chance of winning the lottery this year after finishing the season with a record of 20-50-12. They hold a 25.5 percent chance of winning the first overall selection, a place that they picked from a year ago.

The team with the second-best odds is the Chicago Blackhawks, following a very poor season, finishing 25-46-11. Chicago owns a 13.5 percent chance of winning the first pick.

Rounding out the top-three is the Nashville Predators after a record of 20-44-8 season. Nashville has an 11.5 percent chance of winning the top selection.
