The New York Giants made their decision under center. After trading up with the Houston Texans, the Giants made Mississippi quarterback Jaxson Dart the second passer taken in the 2025 NFL Draft.

As such, they made it official that Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders wouldn’t take that spot, despite months of work on the prospect, further continuing his slide.

Sanders slid out of Round 1, then through Day 2, eventually being taken by the Cleveland Browns in Round 5. It was the biggest draft weekend surprise in recent memory, and, unlike reaching for Daniel Jones in 2019, New York wasn’t a part of it.

The Giants still managed to get involved, albeit without blame.

During Sanders’ fall, he was prank called by a group of students at Dart’s stomping grounds in Mississippi. Given the private phone Sanders was afforded by the league, only NFL employees had the number, making its leak something to chase down.

Before it was revealed that Jax Ulbrich – the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich – made the call, rumors circulated around another Mississippi student, Sydney Schoen. That didn’t stop internet aggregators, reporters, and droves of fans from running with the story and linking Schoen to it in the meantime.

Simply put, NFL fans owe the general manager’s daughter an apology.

While Joe Schoen wasn’t asked directly about the prank, he was asked about Sanders’ slide during defensive tackle Darius Alexander’s introductory presser.

“I’m not going to get into — this is Darius’s press conference and the New York Giants, so we can talk about that if you want, but I don’t want to talk about any other players,” he said.

Jax Ulbrich, meanwhile, took to social media to apologize to the quarterback.

“On Friday night I made a tremendous mistake. Sheduer, what I did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful. I’m so sorry I took away from your moment, it was selfish and childish. I could never imagine getting ready to celebrate one of the greatest moments of your life and I made a terrible mistake and messed with that moment. Thank you for accepting my call earlier today, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”
