Despite uncertainty surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers’ running back room, Warren Sharp — a well-respected analyst and expert in sports analytics — explained why Jaylen Warren is expected to lead the charge in 2025.
Sharp recently took to social media to highlight that Warren is one of just three running backs to achieve an elite level of efficiency over the past three years — averaging at least five yards per touch in three straight seasons.
Every time he touched the football, Warren appeared far more explosive than former Steelers RB Najee Harris. And while his 2024 season wasn’t as strong statistically as his 2023 campaign, Warren still ranked among the top running backs in the NFL since 2022: second in explosive run rate, sixth in yards after contact, sixth in yards per carry, and sixth in success rate.
Insider Gerry Dulac has suggested that the Steelers may not view Warren as the RB1 — or even an RB1-A — heading into the 2025 season. But Sharp would likely argue otherwise, and so would Warren’s elite efficiency metrics.
Jaylen Warren, Steelers RB1:
1 of 3 RBs to average over 5 yards/touch in 3 straight seasons
his ranks of 48 RBs with 300+ carries since 2022:
#2 in explosive run rate
#6 in yards after contact
#6 in YPC
#6 in success rate pic.twitter.com/u2CHd5jhYa— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) April 18, 2025
