The New Orleans Saints are in a weird place, that much is certain. With Derek Carr’s 2025 season being in limbo, the Saints may be in for an intriguing battle at the quarterback position, whether or not they draft one. Many of their meetings have come on the offensive side of the ball, specifically along the offensive line, as they potentially look to shore up their trenches for the foreseeable future. With Kellen Moore coming in and knowing the value of an extremely productive offensive line, that may be how he kick-starts this offense as well.
One of the most recent prospect meetings to be reported for the Saints has been UNC offensive lineman Willie Lampkin. In a recent interview with Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the interior line prospect reflected on his pre-draft meetings so far: “I had a great virtual meeting with the Atlanta Falcons recently. At the Senior Bowl, I had great meetings with the Commanders, Steelers, Saints, Broncos, Seahawks, Ravens, Buccaneers, Browns and Chargers.”
Lampkin has split time across the offensive line, in 2024 he only played right guard, but in 2023 he played all three interior positions, and in 2022 he exclusively played center. This type of versatility is impressive, given he has only allowed one sack across all three of those seasons, and a combined 23 hurries.
The one downside is his athletic profile, receiving a 3.05 Relative Athletic Score, predominantly due to his smaller size at 5-foot-10 and 279 pounds. This would put him among the smallest offensive linemen to ever play the game, but at the end of the day, talent beats all. On tape, he has shown an ability to keep defenders away from the quarterback, and odds are he will be able to continue that to some degree at the NFL level. The likely Day 3 pick could be an intriguing pickup for the Saints as they look to solidify things and protect whoever their quarterback may be.
