The New York Knicks thrillingly defeated the Detroit Pistons in Game 6 of the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
While OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges stepped up in a major way in the deciding game, it was the play of Jalen Brunson down the stretch that helped earn them the victory.
Brunson had dealt with injuries in multiple games in the first-round series, but seemed perfectly healthy as he hit the game-winning three off a vicious crossover to give him 40 for the night.
NBA analyst has clear Jalen Brunson prediction
The Knicks now advance to the second round and will take on the Boston Celtics.
The Knicks haven’t performed well against the NBA’s top teams, the Celtics included.
On the season, the Knicks went 0-4 against their Eastern Conference rival.
However, that did not stop Bleacher Report’s NBA analyst Andy Bailey from delivering a clear prediction for Brunson ahead of Game 1.
In his latest piece, Bailey predicts Brunson to be the series’ scoring leader., ahead of players like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Karl-Anthony Towns.
“Jayson Tatum averaged 31.3 in the Magic series. Jaylen Brown has averaged 20-plus in each of his last five playoff runs,” Bailey wrote. “Heck, even Brunson’s teammate, Karl-Anthony Towns is likely to have a few scoring outbursts.
“But no one in this series dominates the ball quite like Brunson, who led the entire NBA in average time of possession in the regular season. And in a matchup that figures to have multiple games go down to the wire, you can expect Brunson, the 2024-25 Clutch Player of the Year, to try to win them almost singlehandedly.”
As we saw multiple times throughout the Pistons series, if the game is close late, Brunson will have the ball in his hands.
While Tatum will have the same opportunities on the opposing side down the stretch, it’s not out of the question for the Clutch Player of the Year winner to accomplish this feat.
