It’s been all smiles for the New York Mets and their fans to begin this season. The Mets have won an MLB-best 19 games, and currently hold a five-game lead over the second-place Philadelphia Phillies. One key reason for New York’s success has been a dominant pitching staff, which has been the best in the Majors.

Despite their success, the Mets have dealt with a litany of injuries to begin the season. Unfortunately, it sounds like a key member of their bullpen will need to hit the injured list. After entering late in Saturday’s game, veteran southpaw A.J. Minter left with what was later described as a triceps injury (via SNY Mets).

Speaking with reporters after Saturday’s game, Mets skipper Carlos Mendoza addressed the injury (via SNY).

“When you have a pitcher coming out of the game because of an arm, even if we get good news, you have to be careful,” Mendoza said, “I don’t want to get ahead of myself; we have to wait and see what we’re dealing with here.”

Minter also met with reporters, revealing the unfortunate news that he is likely heading to the IL.

Minter has been a good addition for the Mets this season. After playing his first eight seasons with the division rival Atlanta Braves, Minter signed with New York on a one-year deal worth $11 million.

So far this season, Minter has posted a 1.69 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched. He is yet to surrender a home run and has a 0.938 WHIP. The Mets are hoping the veteran lefty will have an easy transition back to stay after a brief IL stint.
