Matheus Cunha says he is ‘happy’ and committed to Wolves despite interest from Manchester United.
The Brazilian forward is hotly tipped to join United in the summer and Telegraph Sport understands the club will try and pay his £62.5m release clause in instalments.
Cunha was at his best in a fine attacking display against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s hapless Leicester, who were already relegated, as he scored and assisted two more in a routine win.
The 25-year-old opened the scoring on 33 minutes and then set up Jorgen Strand Larsen in the second half, before Rodrigo Gomes finished things off late on following more good work from the United target.
“We are very committed to this club, everyone, and want to show the fans our capacity. We’re starting to get the points we deserve and show everyone our work,” Cunha said.
“I always say that I am always happy to play for this team. Sometimes my emotion is too much because I love to be here.”
October 1970 was the last time Wolves had won six in a row in the top division and their upward trajectory hit new heights under the leadership of Vitor Pereira as they climbed to 13th in the table.
Leicester, in contrast, saw their winless run stretch to 11 matches while Jamie Vardy, who it was announced this week would leave the club at the end of the season, missed a second-half penalty on another miserable day for the visitors.
Baleba stunner ends Brighton’s winless run
Carlos Baleba struck a stunning added-time winner as Brighton reignited their European push by piling more misery on former manager Graham Potter with a dramatic 3-2 Premier League victory over West Ham.
Potter, who left Albion to join Chelsea in 2022, was on course to have the last laugh at the Amex Stadium after second-half goals from Mohammed Kudus and Tomas Soucek turned the contest in the Hammers’ favour following Yasin Ayari’s eye-catching opener.
But substitute Kaoru Mitoma headed the Seagulls level a minute from time before Baleba sensationally curled home from distance two minutes beyond the 90.
The last-gasp victory for Fabian Hurzeler’s ninth-placed hosts ended a five-match winless run in the top flight, while West Ham’s dismal run extended to a seventh game without success.
Hammers striker Niclas Fullkrug was dropped to the bench following his public outburst after last weekend’s 1-1 draw with relegated Southampton. Chants of “Potter, Potter, what’s the score?” rang around the ground, while the away end added to their manager’s problems by singing in support of Germany international Fullkrug.
Fulham’s late winner keeps Southampton sweating over points record
Fulham defender Ryan Sessegnon scored the 1,000th goal of the Premier League season as his last minute winner saw off Southampton.
Sessegnon struck late to keep Southampton stuck on 11 points – the joint-worst tally in Premier League history.
Jack Stephens put the home side ahead on 14 minutes before Emile Smith Rowe equalised 18 minutes from time.
Sessegnon then won it and said a half time rollicking from Marco Silva turned the match around.
“The manager was very disappointed with us in the first half,” Sessegnon said. “We weren’t dynamic enough on the ball and didn’t penetrate enough. In the second half we played with more urgency and moved the ball much quicker because we had to and won the game.”
Silva added: “The win is what we needed. We wanted to bounce back and reignite the flame for us to fight for what we want. We are playing final after final after final and it will be like that every week for the rest of the season. This three points is massive for us, and now we have to prepare well the next final against Aston Villa.”
