There’s been plenty of discussion about the Chicago Bears adding a running back in the 2025 NFL draft, whether it’s early with their first round pick or later in the draft.
Several mock drafts have projected the Bears to take Boise State running back, and Heisman Trophy runner-up, Ashton Jeanty, while other projections have them selecting a different player at the position with one of their later picks in the second or third rounds.
One of the top running back prospects this year is Arizona State‘s Cam Skattebo, who is projected to be a mid-round pick. Last season, Skattebo rushed for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns and added 605 receiving yards and three scores, showcasing his ability as a dual-threat running back.
While Skattebo isn’t at the top of everyone’s wish list, former Bears linebacker and Arizona State alum Lance Briggs recently advocated for the team to draft Skattebo.
“If we did draft Cam Skattebo, we’d be getting a hell of a player” Briggs said on the CHGO Bears podcast. “I think his game transfers to the NFL extremely well. With D’Andre Swift being a player in space, a space type of back, speedy, spot back, Cam Skattebo, is a guy who runs really well in between tackles, catches out of the backfield extremely well, he’ll move the chains. To me he’s an every down type of back. Great balance, great vision, I don’t think there’s anything he can’t do.”
It is quite the endorsement from Briggs, and Skattebo would certainly fill the position alongside Swift under new head coach Ben Johnson. There’s definitely a big feeling that the running back position will be addressed in the draft, and Briggs certainly feels that Skattebo would be a good fit in the Bears’ backfield.
