No. 7 Tennessee (34-9, 9-6 SEC) defeated No. 1 Texas (39-5, 11-4 SEC), 4-1, Sunday at Fred and Charlene McCombs Field in Austin, Texas.

Tennessee won the series, 2-1, against the Longhorns. Tennessee has won three SEC road series and claimed series against Oklahoma and Texas.

The Lady Vols led, 1-0, in the first inning after Sophia Nugent recorded a sacrifice fly. Texas tied the game in the first.

Tennessee senior first baseman McKenna Gibson went 3-for-3, she recorded one double, three RBIs and one sacrifice fly. Taylor Pannell went 3-for-3 and hit one double and scored three runs for the Lady Vols.

Kinsey Fiedler, Tennessee’s leadoff hitter, walked three times and scored three runs.

Karlyn Pickens (17-4) pitched a complete game for Tennessee. She allowed one run, six hits and one walk over seven innings. Pickens, the two-time reigning SEC and NFCA Pitcher of the Week, finished with 10 strikeouts, while totaling 112 pitches and 71 strikes.
