The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed the brother of LA Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert following the 2025 NFL draft.
Patrick Herbert, a tight end, is joining the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent addition.
Patrick Herbert played at Oregon just as Justin did. He is listed at 6-5 and weighs 255 pounds. His role within the Oregon offense has primarily been as a blocker.
Over the last two seasons, Herbert has just 32 total targets during that span, but has been on the field for 469 as a run-blocker, according to PFF.
“Patrick Herbert is the epitome of toughness,” tight ends coach Drew Mehringer said via The Register-Guard last season. “This is a guy that doesn’t say a whole lot, that does the right thing, that misses very, very, very rare assignments, is prepared, plays through injury. He’s banged up? Doesn’t care. He breaks his finger in the middle of practice? Doesn’t care. Will not put on a red jersey. He is an awesome human being.”
That one paragraph seems to fit the mold of what it means to be ‘intangibly rich,’ as James Gladstone would say.
The tight end position was one for the Jaguars where depth was needed heading into training camp. Even with the additions of Johnny Mundt and Hunter Long in free agency, the Jaguars still had only five tight ends on the roster prior to the NFL draft.
The tight end position being able to hold up in the run game is a vital element of Liam Coen’s offense.
