Apr. 19—JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown track and field teams came home to host the 2025 Al Cassell Classic and had three first-place finishes in their only home event of the year on Saturday, April 19, at Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium.

The Jimmies hosted four other teams in the event, Minnesota State University Moorhead, Valley City State University (North Dakota), Concordia College (Minnesota) and South Dakota State University.

The Jimmies’ biggest area of success came in the throwing events where they had all three of their wins. The Jimmies first win of the day came from Tyler Dean in the discus where he threw it 45.71 meters, just ahead of his teammate Samuel Reiland who threw his discus 44.45 meters. Dean and Reiland were not the only Jimmies men to do well in the event as Dawson Sedivec, Ethan Halverson, Kobe Irmen, Shane Schnurr and Evan Schmit rounded out the top seven.

The Jimmies’ Heather Okeson won the women’s discus competition with a throw of 38.60 meters, good for a season record for the senior. She was joined in the top ten by Makenzie Gibson who finished in fifth and Brenna Held who finished in sixth.

The Jimmies final win of the day came from Sedivec in the 16-pound hammer throw where he threw it 58.02 meters. The Jimmies men also dominated that event, finishing in second, fourth, ninth, 10th and 14th.

In total, the Jimmies had 46 top-five finishes throughout the course of the day. On the track, the Jimmies six second place finishes.

The Jimmies are back in action on Tuesday, April 22, when they go to the Viking Twilight meet with the time still to be determined.
