With spring practice over, updated power rankings are flooding the internet. Earlier this week, On3’s Andy Staples dropped his new top 25.
LSU football came in at No. 15.
“The Tigers hit the portal hard to shore up a defense that has been below LSU’s standard from a talent perspective. But just as promising is the possibility that freshmen like cornerback D.J. Pickett look like the freaks LSU used to bring in every recruiting class. QB Garrett Nussmeier is excellent, and if the Tigers can replenish a line that is mostly off to the NFL, they should compete for a CFP berth,” Staples said.
Still, Staples is lower on LSU than several analysts across the sport. If LSU finishes the year as the No. 15 team in the country, it will be considered a disappointment.
Staples put LSU’s week one opponent, Clemson, at No. 3. Staples cited the arrival of new defensive coordinator Tom Allen and the return of QB Cade Klubnik as reasons for optimism in Dabo Swinney’s program.
LSU is used to a big test week one, and 2025 will be no different.
