Audi Crooks of the Iowa State Cyclones drives to the basket against Jordan Hobbs of the Michigan Wolverines during the first round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on March 21, 2025, in South Bend, Indiana.

The Des Moines Register is pleased to announce that Iowa State women’s basketball star Audi Crooks will be the guest speaker at the 2024-25 Iowa High School Sports Awards on June 12 at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.

Crooks, a native of Algona, Iowa, was one of the most dominant players in Iowa state high school basketball history. She attended Bishop Garrigan High School, where she led the Golden Bears to a 101-8 record during her four years, including back-to-back state titles her junior and senior years. In addition, she was named Class 1A Player of the Year her freshman year, was twice named Iowa Female Athlete of the Year by The Des Moines Register, capped off her senior year with the Iowa Miss Basketball award, and earned first-team all-state honors all four years.

Crooks capped her high school career as the Iowa state tournament’s all-time leader in points (332) and rebounds (160).

A four-star recruit and one of the best high school prospects in the 2023 class, Crooks chose to take her talents to Iowa State. In only two years with the program, Crooks has made her mark in the Cyclones’ history books. She entered her freshman season as Iowa State’s backup center, but quickly earned her starting role a few games into the season.

The Iowa High School Sports Awards are part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards program.

She was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week three times and twice named Big 12 Player of the Week. She capped a successful freshman season by earning a first-team All-Big 12 selection and an honorable mention All-America award, the first freshman in program history to win such accolades.

Crooks was even more dominant her sophomore season, setting the school’s single-season scoring record of 763 points. She was named a third-team All-American by the Associated Press and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and a WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-American honorable mention. She was a finalist for the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year award (a first for Iowa State).

Crooks is looking forward to returning to Iowa State for her junior year and helping her team to another March Madness run.
