Offseason programs are underway for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are able to get an early start compared to most of the NFL because they have a first-year head coach in Liam Coen.

These voluntary programs began on Tuesday for the Jaguars, and on Wednesday, quarterback Trevor Lawrence was available to speak with the media. Here are the highlights from the interview.

– Lawrence says with his shoulder, he is able to work out and throw at this time. He adds that right now he is pacing himself, as far as his rehab goes, during OTAs and working his way up to where he wants to be. The amount of throws may be limited early on, but “that won’t last too long.”

– “It feels great, just the energy in the building,” said Lawrence about having everyone back for offseason programs. “The coaching side, you can feel the energy and excitement.”

– About his footwork, Lawrence said that throughout his career, there are things that he’s identified as a weakness that he wants to work on. He adds that Liam Coen’s system is built on timing, and tied directly to that is the footwork component.

– “I really believe in it,” said Lawrence of the new offensive system. Lawrence adds that he thinks he’ll be able to play faster as he operates through progressions.

– “Seeing what was said initially, and how it’s been carried out is exciting,” said Lawrence about the new coaching staff and having James Gladstone as the GM.

– “It’s nice seeing him in that role,” said Lawrence about Tony Boselli. “He wants to see this team be great.”

– “It’s hard seeing guys go. It’s a part of the business, unfortunately,” said Lawrence about Christian Kirk and Evan Engram not being on the team. “Those guys, they do it the right way.”

– Lawrence highlighted the different facets that the running game in Coen’s offense can add to the offense as a whole. Lawrence mentioned after the season that a more consistent running game was needed.

– “I like what we have, to be honest,” said Lawrence about the pass-catchers on the roster. “I really like where we’re at.”

– Lawrence on Brenton Strange: “Brenton is beyond ready.” Lawrence mentioned his work ethic and his practice habits. “You know he’s doing everything the right way.” Lawrence adds, “he can do everything you need him to do.”

– “The more variety you can have, it just helps you as an offense,” Lawrence said about Coen’s system. The emphasis on the running game, pre-snap motion, and schemed-up routes can all take some of the playmaking burden off Lawrence at times.
