Former Notre Dame and California wide receiver Tobias Merriweather has hade his latest transfer decision.
Merriweather (6-foot-5, 205 pounds) was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 80 player when coming out of Camas, Washington, in the class of 2022. The Union High School product was considered as the No. 14 player at the position when signing with Notre Dame.
Merriweather made 19 appearances for the Fighting Irish over two seasons, including six starts in 2023, before entering the transfer portal for the first time in December of 2023.
The Golden Bears ultimately won the race for Merriweather, and he was expected to fill a key role last season. However, an injury held Merriweather out of the first eight games.
Merriweather entered the portal again before the spring transfer deadline and has since committed to the Utah Utes out of the Big 12, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Merriweather has amassed 26 catches for 450 yards with four touchdowns in 26 career games.
The Utes and longtime head coach Kyle Whittingham are coming off a disappointing first year (5-7) in the Big 12 after coming over from the Pac-12 ahead of the 2024 season.
Excluding the COVID year, Utah had posted four straight seasons of at least eight wins with three seasons of 10 or more wins over that span.
Whittningham has overhauled the offense ahead of the 2025 season by, in part, brining in former New Mexico offensive coordinator Jason beck and Lobos transfer quarterback Devon Damper.
Additionally, the wide receiver room has added multiple pieces like Merriweather, Creed Whittemore (Mississippi State), Justin Stevenson (Wyoming), Otto Tia (Utah State) and Larry Simmons (Southern Mississippi).
The new-look Utes will open the season at UCLA on Aug. 30.
