The Kavanagh name is very much associated with Notre Dame lacrosse, and Matt Kavanagh will go down as one of the best of the bunch.
On Sunday, the No. 5 overall pick of the Major League Lacrosse league in 2016 called it a career, retiring from the game after nine seasons. It was littered with accolades, much like his Irish tenure, as Kavanagh ranks first all-time in playoff assists, second all-time in playoff points, and fourth all-time in playoff goals according to PremierLacrosseLeage.com.
A two-time league champion and two-time all-star, Kavanagh will leave behind the game he love to play. He was a four-time All-American for Notre Dame, and left a lasting legacy that helped propel them into one of the top programs in the country. While he wasn’t part of a NCAA Championship during his time in South Bend (runners up in 2014), he was the first player ever to have 30 goals and 30 assists in the same season.
Enjoy retirement Matt, you had one heck of a career.
