There is a growing trend of college basketball players getting signed to play in the NFL. One of the latest is Mississippi State’s Jimmy Bell Jr. The 6-foot-10, 330-pounder went hardwood to the gridiron, signing a deal with the Los Angeles Chargers as an offensive tackle.

Bell, who will be 25 before the NFL season, has stints at West Virginia (2022-23) before transferring to Mississippi State for a graduate senior season. He recorded 491 points, 479 rebounds, 50 assists, 49 blocks and 44 steals at the NCAA Division I level.

The big man has a background on the football field prior to going the basketball route. He played in the trenches as a multi-sport athlete at Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Michigan. He spent his last two high school years at Bella Vista College Prep School in Scottsdale, Arizona to focus solely on basketball. Bell’s college basketball career began in 2019.

Bell tried to switch over to football while at WVU, but ultimately came back to basketball. Seems his time paid off and he’ll get a shot at being on the final 53-man roster for the Chargers.
