After one season with the Nevada Wolf Pack, Savion Red is back in the transfer portal. The former Longhorn will be looking to join a new program for the second time in his college career. He announced on Tuesday that he was entering the portal and thanked the Reno community.

During the 2024 season, Red was productive in a new system. He recorded 687 yards on 119 carries and found the end zone eight times. He was also used at times in the passing game, with 16 catches for 74 yards. The talented running back will now look to take his game to the next level.

When Red arrived at Austin, he was a three-star wide receiver prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. He switched to running back and saw his handwork pay off. He finished the 2023 campaign with  30 carries for 131 yards and one touchdown.

While Red’s time with the Longhorns was full of memorable moments, he left to play for a program that would give him a bigger role. That paid off, as he set career highs last year in carries, rushing yards, and touchdowns. It is a chapter in Red’s playing career he will never forget.

“First, I would like to give God the glory and praise for allowing me another year at doing what I love,” Red wrote on X. “To the University of Nevada-Reno, thank you for giving me the opportunity to be apart of the Wolf Pack! Thank you Coach Choate & UNR for believing in me and my ability as a player. I would like to thank the fans, the community of reno & my teammates that I have formed a bond with that will last a lifetime. With that being said; after praying and discussing with my family… I will be entering the transfer portal. Thank you UNR-wolf pack.”

Due to his experience, Red should draw some interest in the transfer portal. The Texas native has found a way to make an impact at every school he has played at, and that should only continue.
